Steve Cherwonak

Officially joining the Sundogs organization in May of 2008, Cherwonak becomes the third President in franchise history and brings with him a dozen years of experience within the Central and Western Professional Hockey Leagues. An original member of the WPHL that began play in 1996, he served various duties within the front office and was named Vice President of Communications for the CHL when the two organizations combined in May of 2001, overseeing league media efforts, establishing protocol and creating the annual playing schedule.

Born in Smithers, British Columbia, 39-year-old Cherwonak attended the University of Victoria prior to accepting a football scholarship and transferring to the University of British Columbia, majoring in Human Kinetics. Steve joins the Sundogs after serving as General Manager of the CHL’s Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs during the 2007-2008 season.

Cherwonak’s duties with the Sundogs will include overseeing team staff, acting as chief liaison with both the Central Hockey League and Tim’s Toyota Center, and assisting in all areas of team operations. An avid sports enthusiast, Cherwonak is an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Flyers.
